Folder sharing in Windows

Below are instructions on how to both share a folder in Windows and disable those shares.

How to share a folder

Vista / 7 / Server 2008

1. Right click on the folder you wish to share.

2. Select Proprieties

3. Select the Sharing tab at the top

4. Select "Share" under Network File and Folder Sharing

5. On the "Choose people on your network to share with" window that comes up select who on your network you wish to have access to this folder. You will need to make this selection based of what your network requires to remain secure. However CMS does require that all Workstations have both Read and Write access to the NewHaven Software directory to function.

6. Select "Share"

Windows XP

1. Right click on the folder you wish to share.

2. Select Proprites

3. Select the Sharing tab at the top

4. Select "Share this folder"

5. Select "Permissions"

6. Set the permissions you wish to have for this folder. You will need to make this selection based of what your network requires to remain secure. However CMS does require that all Workstations have both Read and Write access to the NewHaven Software directory to function.


How to disable a shared folder

Vista / 7 / Server 2008

1. Right click on the folder you wish to share.

2. Select Proprieties

3. Select the Sharing tab at the top

4. Select "Advanced Sharing"

5. Remove the checkmark "Share this folder"

6. Select ok


Windows XP

1. Right click on the folder you wish to share.

2. Select Proprieties

3. Select the Sharing tab at the top

4. Select "Do not share this folder"
